Lesson Ten: Information from Source A -> Informal Outline

Develop your Outline. Your informal outline currently reflects what you believe about your topic based on what you & some of your friends already knew. After reading Source A, you are now in a position to add some new information to further develop your outline.

1. Review what you learned about your topic from reading & marking up Source A. From all this information, select the details that seem most relevant to one or more of your reasons. Look for specific facts, statistics, and expert opinion that support your reasons.

2. Paraphrase the details (i.e. same ideas, your words). If it is expert opinion, use " " & write what was said exactly.

3. Update your informal outline.

Presentation portfolio: Add this paraphrased information to your informal outline. This information can be added to your outline in multiple places:

  • as supporting detail before OR after the example
  • to further develop a reason, a point, or an example
